TREATMENT PROCEDURE
Case History & Examination
-
Your first consultation & treatment will last for 45 minutes.
-
I will need to know about your health (past and present) which will require asking detailed questions about your complaint, medical history, general health, and any medication you may be taking.
-
A careful physical examination will be undertaken which sometimes incorporates medical equipment to aid diagnosis.
-
You may be asked to remove some of your clothing and perform a series of simple movements. A balance is always sought to respect your dignity while still allowing the examination to take place.
-
If you wish, you may have a friend or relative present during the appointment.
-
Towelling is provided to cover body areas that once assessed do not require further examination or treatment.
Treatment
-
Osteopaths use their heightened sense of touch to identify points of weakness or excessive strain in the body. You will normally be treated while lying on a treatment couch.
-
Treatment usually involves a range of gentle, non-invasive, manual techniques – which in practical terms means a combination of soft-tissue massage, joint articulation and in some instances joint mobilisation.
-
You may be shown exercises to do at home or suggestions may be made to improve your posture.
-
The number of treatments will depend on your condition.
-
After treatment you may feel slightly stiff or sore for a few hours. If you are concerned feel free to contact me on +44 (0) 791 3850346
Consent
-
Examination and treatment cannot be carried out without your consent. If you wish to withdraw your consent at any point during the consultation you may do so.
